Your summary of the past week’s events!

It feels like we are having 2 weekends this week and the 2nd weekend is here! Here is your recap everything FrontRunners from the past week.
This last week we continued training with the SF Track & Field Club, posted another great Runner Bio interview, and celebrated our 4th of July around the bay… all in addition to our usual runs!
SF Track and Field Club Interval Training: The SF Track and Field Club continues to attract at least one new runner each week who is interested in learning about interval training. In many instances, workouts compliment your Stow Lake Saturday morning 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mile runs. While SF Frontrunners have been running each of these courses backwards (in reverse directions) for several weeks now, the photo below shows runners actually running backwards on the track for a 100m distance.

Did you know? - Backward running can be done whether you have a groin, hamstring, knee, Achilles’ tendon, or ankle injury. You can also continue to run if you have back pain or shin splints. It has been said that taking 100 steps backward is the same as taking 1,000 steps forward, and that going backward burns a fifth more calories than running forward. Running backward may help improve your times when you’re running forward. You are encouraged to attend at least one workout on a Sunday morning at 10am at SFSU, Cox Stadium, to experience the benefits that interval training will have to your marathon running. For details, contact Bob Callori at callori@sbcglobal.net or check out the website (link).
Runner Bio Interview - Marilyn Mitchell: FrontRunner, Professor, and Musician extraordinaire, Marilyn Mitchell, sat down with us for an awesome Runner Bio interview, which you can read about here (link). While you are at it, you can check our all of our other interviews and learn more about your fellow SFFR Members.
4th of July Festivities: On Wednesday, many of us enjoyed Dolores Park, went to fun Barbeques, listened to live music, and braved the chilly wind for some awesome fireworks around the Bay and elsewhere. Even better, the fog stayed away long enough to view those fireworks... lucky us!
Important Reminder: On Saturdays, we have been running for 3 months now in the reverse direction of the usual courses. We are now switching back to the traditional directions for each of the runs. We will have someone on each run this weekend to help guide you if you are new or have forgotten the old course.
Women's Run Reminder: The monthly Women's Run will take place this Saturday during our regular runs. If you know anyone interested or new to the club, invite them to come check us out. We will be running close to 3 miles (5K) and we will pick a leader for the run the morning of. Everyone is invited to attend the run.
Member Card Reminder: If you have renewed or signed up for FrontRunners for 2012, you can pick up your card at any Saturday after the runs. Allow for 2 weeks between registering and having your card printed. You can also email vp@sffr.org for a replacement.
As always, we welcome submissions for events, photos, news articles, and columns.
That covers it for this last week.
Enjoy your weekend and see you at the runs!
