Weekly Recap (September 29th - October 5th, 2012)

By Brian Ray

Your summary of the week's past events!

October has started with amazing weather and many events coming up in the city! Here is your dose of weekly recap!

This last week we celebrated the LOOKOUT's birthday with a great dive bar night, enjoyed our first ever Sunday Long Run Member Brunch, posted the President's Column and Monthly Women's Column for October, set a turnout milestone during our Tuesday Evening Runs, and posted a new Sponsor Spotlight… all in addition to our usual runs/walks!

Dive Bar Night at Jock: Last Friday, we headed over to LOOKOUT to celebrate their 5th birthday. A good crowd of SF FrontRunners turned out to drink, chat, and enjoy the evening. It was a fitting way to also thank the LOOKOUT for holding our JOCK fundraiser the weekend before.

Sunday Long Run Member Brunch: After an 80-minute long run on Sunday, SF FrontRunners members and friends headed over the Brian's and Byron's place for a delicious post-run brunch, free to members. We enjoyed a delicious array of food in their sunny backyard. A special thanks to everyone who made it out! We are exploring holding these brunches 3-4 times a year, so let us know your input as we look forward with planning.

October President's Column and Monthly Women's Column: With the new month starting, we posted the new President's Column (link) and Monthly Women's Column (link). Check them out for updates on the club and other exciting ideas.

Tuesday Evening Runs: On Tuesday, we finally met our goal of 40 runners/walkers! The weather certainly helped us reach our goal, and it was a beautiful evening. If you haven't done the Tuesday runs/walks in a while, we'd definitely recommend trying it out. Not only do you enjoy the amazing sunsets and downtown lights, you also can indulge in a post-run meal with fellow FrontRunners and friends.

Sponsor Spotlight - Body Awakening: Ancient Wellness Arts: On Wednesday, we posted a new Sponsor Spotlight. This time we talked with our newest Sponsors, Wendell and Megha from Body Awakening: Ancient Wellness Arts. If you had the opportunity to get a free massage from them during our Saturday runs/walks last weekend, you have seen how awesome they are. Here is their Sponsor Spotlight (link).

While there, check out past Spotlights for a refresher on the amazing sponsors we have and the offers you get as a member of SF FrontRunners!

Reminder - Bagel Brunch (FREE to members) (Saturday, October 6th): This Saturday after our runs and walks, we'll be treated to a delicious Bagel Brunch put on by Steve Benne of Molto Benne Catering (link). Eric Jansen of Out in the Bay (link) is covering the costs for this one, so it's free for SFFR members. We'll also have a guest speaker and we will be presenting the ceremonial check to Eric and Out in the Bay for the funds raised from the Pride Run. Full info here (link). See you there!

Reminder - Saturday Runs changing direction in October: In an effort to mix things up a bit, we are continuing our 3-month intervals with running the Saturday Runs in 1 direction, and then reversing the course for 3 months. October marks the start of a directional change, so beginning this Saturday, we will switch direction again and will run that way for another 3 months. Of course, you can run however you like, so only do it if you want. We will have people assigned to leading each run for the first few weeks. If you have never run a course in the opposite direction before, we highly suggest you try it… it’s almost like running a new course altogether!

Member Card Reminder: If you have renewed or signed up for FrontRunners for 2012, you can pick up your card at any Saturday after the runs. There currently is a slight delay on more recent names on the cards due to a downed-printer... It should be fixed soon. You can also email vp@sffr.org for a replacement.

As always, we welcome submissions for events, photos, news articles, and columns.

That covers it for this last week.

Enjoy your weekend and see you at the runs, walks, and events!
