President
Brian Ray - 2013 SFFR President
Q: How long have you been running with FrontRunners?
Brian: I started with SF FrontRunners in 2010 and then ran with Sydney FrontRunners for some time until I came back to SF in 2011.
Q: Where are you originally from and when did you move to the Bay Area?
Brian: I grew up in Salt Lake City, UT and moved to San Francisco in 2008. I spent about 5 months in Australia at the beginning of 2011 and then came back to SF.
Q: What do you do for work?
Brian: I do a couple of things. I primarily do graphic art and illustration/animation. I also work with film promotions and publicity, doing advance screenings for press and the public as well as film festivals and promotional events for releases.
Q: What do you enjoy in your spare time?
Brian: Cooking, exercise, video games, movies, art, and hanging out with friends. I’m a big fan of exploring the city and going places I haven’t been yet.
Q: What is one of your fondest memories of FrontRunners so far?
Brian: I can think of two. In Sydney we ran in pouring rain and only a couple runners showed up. I ran with a friend while carrying an umbrella (yes I know… pathetic) which was useless because we were soaked anyways. We warmed up and got some good brunch after. My other, more recent memory was working on the Pride Run. I hadn’t been involved in an event-planning for a while so I really enjoyed helping out with it and meeting some members I hadn’t known as well before.
Q: What do you look forward to this year in the club?
Brian: I want to work at spreading our club's goods over the year more, providing more diverse activities and benefits to members throughout the year. I also will continue working with newcomers and women's outreach.

Secretary
Jason Angel - 2013 SFFR Secretary
Q: How long have you been running with FrontRunners?
Jason: I've been running with SFFR for about a year.
Q: Where are you originally from and when did you come to the Bay Area?
Jason: I actually grew up in the Bay Area (about 10 blocks from where we start our runs!). I went away to grad school on the East Coast and finally came back to settle down here.
Q: What do you do for work?
Jason: I work treating mentally ill patients at a local hospital.
Q: What do you enjoy in your spare time?
Jason: Hanging out with my dog Alpine, traveling to exotic (and not so exotic) locations, reading, and running!
Q: What is one of your fondest memories of FrontRunners so far?
Jason: My fondest memory is actually my first run with SFFR late last year. I was a bit anxious coming to a group where I didn't know anyone. Everyone made me feel extremely welcome and one member very kindly ran with me the entire run. He showed me the 5-mile route and created a very positive and warm environment. I will always be appreciative of the experience that helped solidify my view that SFFR has some of the most amazing people.
Q: What do you look forward to this year in the club?
Jason: More amazing Saturday runs and continuing to connect with new and veteran frontrunners!
Officer-At-Large
Rob Maier - 2013 Officer-At-Large
Q: How long have you been running with FrontRunners?
Rob: I started running on a gym treadmill to add some cardio to my workout. Then about 4 years ago, while on a visit to Seattle, a friend dragged me out for my first FrontRunners run. I was surprised how much more fun it was to run outdoors with a group. As soon as I got home, I hooked up with the local Front Runners club. I was really impressed with all the great friends I made and the motivation the club gave me to be more dedicated to running and the fitness it provides. So a year ago when I moved back from the Northern Virginia to San Francisco, looking up SF FrontRunners was one of the first things I did.
Q: What do you do for work?
Rob: I am a Software Quality Assurance Engineer and have primarily worked with Hospital Information Systems. However, currently I am “between jobs.”
Q: What do you enjoy in your spare time?
Rob: I enjoy hiking and camping, travel, music, movies, and since moving back here I have been enjoying getting back into two-step dancing. It’s really great that there is such a crossover of people who are SF FrontRunners and who go to the Sundance Saloon.
Q: What is one of your fondest memories of FrontRunners so far?
Rob: That is hard to say. I’ve had so much fun attending the brunches, the parties, the “dive-bar” events, the movie nights as well as running with the group. But I guess I would have to say (and this may sound like a promo) I really enjoyed last year’s Pride Run. It was the first SFFR event where I volunteered to help and I appreciated having the chance to meet the former NFL Football player Dave Kopay. His “coming-out” was headline news in DC just about the time I was starting to come out.
Q: Any advice to newcomers to the club and running/fitness?
Rob: Whether you are a walker, a casual runner or someone who likes to race, take advantage of the support and opportunities the club provides for both social and fitness events and most important, try something new. I never would have guessed that it actually is a lot of fun to work a race water station. The more you do, the more you get to know the wonderful people in SFFR.
Q: What do you look forward to this year in the club?
Rob: Mostly, I look forward to just getting more involved with helping the club put on its various activities and events. Additionally, I would like to see the club do a little more to support racing, through more announcements of upcoming races and improved acknowledgement of members' achievements.
