Choose Your Route

All routes begin and end at the Ferry Building. The north and south routes are out and back, so you can turn around whenever you reach your preferred distance.

5 Mile North

1 to 4 mile variants

Our most common route follows the Embarcadero north. It is flat except for the Fort Mason hill and offers scenic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the bay. We regroup at the top of the hill for a brief photo before returning to the Ferry Building.

5 Mile South

1 to 4 mile variants

This route follows the Embarcadero south and is flat as a pancake, with scenic views of the marina, Oracle Park, and Chase Center. Turn around at your desired distance before returning to the Ferry Building.

A proud running accomplishment

Peter ran a 3:12 at the San Francisco Marathon 10 years ago after finally deciding to train seriously. He says he has not come close to that personal record since.

A favorite SFFR memory

Peter completed his first Bay to Breakers centipede with SFFR in 2024. Back in college, a friend drove up from San Diego to run the race in a dinosaur costume and raved about it for months. Peter had wanted to join a centipede ever since.

Fun fact

Peter is an Eagle Scout. His slightly unhinged pandemic hobby was disaster preparedness, which is how he became a licensed amateur radio operator with the call sign KN6GRF.

Beyond running

Peter loves cooking and is always experimenting with new vegan recipes.
