Race Circuit & Leaderboards FAQ
Race Circuit
What is the purpose and motivation behind the SFFR Race Circuit?
SFFR wants to encourage our members to be healthy and well through the enjoyment of running and walking by participating and supporting local and regional races within the greater Bay Area and California.
What are the rules for the SFFR Race Circuit?
Please read the Race Circuit Rules here.
How long is the SFFR Race Circuit?
The SFFR Race Circuit starts from February 1st and ends when the club has its end of year party.
Which events count toward the SFFR Race Circuit?
The events that count towards the SFFR Race Circuit Calendar are posted here on the SFFR website. It contains the discount codes we have received for certain race circuit events or special registration links.
Can walkers participate in the SFFR Race Circuit?
Yes! Many of the 5K events in race events are geared towards walkers. Depending on the event, sometimes the 10K could also be a walking event. Some events have a virtual run option, which is another way walkers can participate if they want a distance longer than 5K. For specifics, check the race circuit event’s website for more details.
Why does the race circuit have a point system?
We are experimenting with using a point system to encourage and motivate members to participate in race events. It’s a metric to keep track of progress and infuse a little bit of friendly competition among members who wish to participate in this program.
Race Circuit Leaderboard
What is the purpose of having a leaderboard?
The SFFR Race Circuit leaderboard publicly keeps track of the participant’s points and completed events throughout the year. It is meant to spur some friendly competition among each other. Most importantly, it is also meant to encourage ourselves and others to do our best in reaching a health and fitness goal as well as celebrate our collective effort.
Are there any prizes?
Yes! See here.
How do I keep track of my points on the Race Circuit Leaderboard?
After finishing a race circuit event, fill out the Race Completion Form. Reminders to fill out this form will be sent periodically on the Races Whatsapp channel as well as the weekly Footweb.
How do I become a Race Circuit Finisher?
Score at least six points from completing race circuit events. First 24 Race Circuit Finishers receive a $25 gift card at the End of Year party.
How do I become a Race Circuit Runner of the Year?
Score the most number of points or complete the most number of races! There will be two Race Circuit Runner of the Year (RCRY) recognitions given at the club’s end of year party, each with a $200 gift card prize.
Where is funding coming from for the prizes for the Race Circuit Leaderboard?
Some of the money SFFR receives from volunteering at water stations for certain race events are earmarked to be spent for the SFFR Race Circuit program prizes.
Global Leaderboard
What is the purpose of this global leaderboard?
The SFFR Race Circuit is meant for local races. However, we do recognize that many SFFR members participate in walking and running events outside our race circuit.
We also want to recognize and encourage members to participate in races beyond the Race Circuit. That’s why we created the Global Leaderboard, a place for members to share their accomplishments with the club and for all of us to celebrate those achievements together.
While a leaderboard may naturally inspire some friendly competition, its primary purpose is to bring enjoyment, document our collective accomplishments, and encourage one another to be our best selves.
How does this global leaderboard differ from the SFFR Race Circuit Leaderboard?
The SFFR Race Circuit Leaderboard tracks points earned from races that are part of the official SFFR Race Circuit Calendar. Its goal is to encourage participation in local races and to support events that members run together as a community.
The Global Leaderboard, on the other hand, recognizes races completed anywhere in the world, including the races from the Race Circuit. Members can submit results from any certified running or walking event outside the Race Circuit to share their accomplishments with the club.
While both leaderboards use the same point system, they serve slightly different purposes: the Race Circuit Leaderboard highlights local community participation, while the Global Leaderboard celebrates members’ running achievements wherever they happen. Both are meant to encourage participation, foster friendly competition, and celebrate the many ways SFFR members stay active.
Which race events can count towards the global leaderboard?
Any certified walking or running event held anywhere in the world outside the Race Circuit may be included, as long as it is completed between January 1 and the date of the End-of-Year Party in December.
How do I keep track of my points on the Global Leaderboard?
After finishing a race, fill out the same Race Completion Form. When completing the form for the Global Leaderboard, select “GLOBAL LEADERBOARD” under the Race Circuit Event Name dropdown menu.
Do I get prizes for participating in the global leaderboard?
No Gift Cards… But Plenty of Bragging Rights!
Unlike the SFFR Race Circuit, the Global Leaderboard does not currently offer gift card prizes. If the program goes well, we hope to explore the possibility of allocating a budget for prizes in future years.
That said, you’ll still earn something just as meaningful: recognition from fellow SFFR members, plenty of cheers and encouragement, and the great feeling of accomplishment that comes from getting out there and doing something amazing.
